New fix for matchmaking system in Modern Warfare 2

April 26th, 2010

All the fans of Modern Warfare 2 across the world should be able to play the game now with a little less lag now. This is possible because a new fix has been applied to the matchmaking system of MW2.
New fix for matchmaking system in Modern Warfare 2
However, this does not mean that you will log on and see anything fundamentally different in your gaming experience, but if you are facing any such problem then this update to the process will be helping you a bit.

According to Microsoft in a blog post of Xbox Live says, “When you search for a match, our servers sort through the many thousands of available matches to find the ‘best’ potential games for you.”

It is also added there, “We’ve changed how we determine ‘best,’ and your country is now an even more significant factor than it was before.”

By now the international lag issues entirely won’t be eliminated, but may be the fix doing good job and the game may be good and swift.

“If you live somewhere that’s geographically isolated – like Australia, for example – most of the world is not near you,” the post states. “On behalf of that Australian gamer we’re now trying harder than ever to find a session in their country for them to join. Of course, this requires there to be games hosted in Australia with open slots at the moment they’re looking – but we’ve maximized the odds of those gamers getting together.”

Patch release was poorly timed

April 3rd, 2010

All the MW2 fans on the Xbox 360 was a bit surprised this week. The surprise was in fact unwanted. The “Stimulus Package” download of the game was released before any necessary content patch. This exactly led to problems for the Microsoft home console owners.

It became a headache for the players while installing because there was no patch to accept the DLC pack. Microsoft in fact had forgotten it and it resulted in “unpredictable” online after effects.

Eric Neustadter, the Xbox Live operations manager, said: “For a couple of hours the result was unpredictable but most people couldn’t get into a game through matchmaking… In technical terms, it was a big hairball that we had to unwind.”

Many reported it to be a speed bumps that was related to the update including an inability to connect to the online service of the game and also a lack of access to the multiplayer maps.

Well, Microsoft claims that this update problem and also the resulting matchmaking wrinkles were ironed out completely by 1100 PST.

Exclusive Modern Warfare 2 DLC coming on Xbox 360 this Spring

February 13th, 2010

Microsoft made an interesting announcement in San Francisco while re-launching the X series of events for Xbox 360 home gaming platform. The software giant said that it is partnering up with Infinity Ward and also with Activision Blizzard to deliver Modern Warfare 2′s exclusive piece of downloadable content during spring.
However, the company refused quote any clear date. This means that the work is still ongoing on the DLC and any further details will be delivered in a few months.

It seems that Microsoft is having a long run strategy of securing and and also delivering exclusive DLC for high profile cross platform releases such as the Modern Warfare 2 and GTA IV.

The spring bouquet will probably be consisting new maps for the multiplayer component. This is in fact the most enduring element of the experience as time passes by. It may also be for a fresh game mode.

Gamers who have purchased MW2 on PS3 or on the PC may also be getting the exclusive content after a few months. The same happened earlier with The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony that were initially made exclusive to the Xbox 360, but now both are available cross platform.

30 days later DLC coming to PS3

January 21st, 2010

It is quite unfortunate for the owners of PlayStation 3. The brand Modern Warfare has become synonymous with the Microsoft’s Xbox 360 for past few years. Now after Modern Warfare 2’s release, this relationship has been cemented.
Developer Activision has worked with the Microsoft in creating a hardware bundle for XBox 360 with its game. They also announced it at the E3 last year that the DLC would his the Xbox 360 first.

Now, at last, the window of exclusivety has been numbered.

Microsoft representative while speaking to the media recently made it clear that the DLC would have a month headstart on the Xbox 360.

He said, “We have a 30-day timed exclusive on the Modern Warfare content packs. So it will be available on other platforms, but you get to try and play on Xbox 360 first.”

Still the DLC has not been dated for any platform till now, even though the earlier CoD titles are representative of the pattern. They will be hitting by the next few months.

Content first, Microsoft thinks like signing a star athlete

January 9th, 2010

Microsoft recently announced that all the new content of Modern Warfare 2 will be coming to Xbox 360 first and then it would hit other platforms. There were two reactions among the fans of MW2 with this announcement.
Those fans who are having Xbox 360 got excited where as those who don’t have it complained that Microsoft seemed again locking down content by issuing large checks.

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg said that he thinks it to be like a sports team, in which when one signs up a star athlete for the team. He adds, “when you sign that free agent, I think it makes your team better. At the end of the day, we want to turn as many people as possible into Xbox 360 fans.”

He also talked about the line-up Microsoft of exclusive content in 2010 as being incredibly strong. He said, “And then to say, on top of that, to take the biggest game of last year, and be the exclusive place you can get that downloadable content first, I think that’s a big deal. That’s a big reason you’d want to buy an Xbox 360 instead of another console. So we think from a business standpoint that’s part of the reason more people are buying the Xbox 360, more people are on Xbox Live, it’s part of the reason more people are buying Modern Warfare 2—more than two to one our box vs. the PS3.”

Greenberg even points out the “bet” Microsoft had put on this game by putting out the custom console. He says that Microsoft wants to follow up the trend of offering the content first.

MW2 DLC will hit the Xbox 360 first

January 8th, 2010

Microsoft again wins the race. This time also in having exclusives as it is pretty strong weapon for it. This time in the war against competing platform holders.
We are well aware that Microsoft is not a stranger to the world when it comes to securing exclusive DLC rights for the Xbox 360. It has been well proved by the 2 extra Grand Theft Auto IV episodes.

Heading again in the race of exclusives, Microsoft now, though not to the same extent, has done it with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Let me quote words from CES, by way of Destructoid: “Any DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be hitting the Xbox 360 before any other platform.”

The competitive fact of it may not be enough in swaying a gamer in trading teams all of a sudden. Practically speaking, especially after the logging countless number of hours into collecting perks. It is hence one more victory that Microsoft can notch on its bedpost.

One million Xbox Live users barred of service

November 13th, 2009

Players of Xbox Live gaming service will be barred of service due to some modification in the game consoles. It is estimated that estimated players of 600,000 to 1 million will be suffered. This step is taken by Microsoft because of illegally downloading from file-sharing sites is taking place.
In a statement recently Microsoft said, “All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live.”

Sad to say that the timing of the statement is coinciding with the release of Modern Warfare 2.

According to Microsoft there are over twenty million players globally using Xbox Live gaming service. This service of the company allows the gamers to play online with each other and also to buy and download games.

The company further said in the statement, “All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live.”

The “Terms of Use” agreement of Xbox Live and Windows games’ as of September 2008 states: “only authorized software and hardware to access the Service,” and that they agree that their software and hardware “have not been modified in any unauthorized way … and that we have the right to send data, applications or other content to any software or hardware that you are using to access the Service for the express purpose of detecting an unauthorized modification.”
