Black Ops pre-orders beating Modern Warfare 2′s

July 13th, 2010

In the history of gaming industry Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most pre-ordered games. According to statistics claimed by various online retailers, more than 150 people pre-ordered MW2 every minute.

The recent news from Treyarch is more exciting. It confirms that Activision’s latest Call of Duty title named Call of Duty: Black Ops is beating Modern Warfare 2 in matters of pre-orders.

Evan Wilson, analyst of Pacific Crest Securities, said that sources within the retail has confirmed that CoD: Black Ops is beating MW2 in terms of pre-orders, even though the release of the game is months away.

He also added that the pre-order of Black Ops may reach 12 million units. The previous estimat was 10 million.

It is good that Black Ops does good pre-orders because analyst believes that due to various reasons this game won’t beat MW2 in terms of sales. The reason behind this is “Competition, weaker marketing, and the Infinity Ward situation.”

Anyway, it is sure that Call of Duty: Black Ops would beat the largest entertainment launch in history says analyst.

Well, let us wait till November 9th to know all these claims.

The pack is price tagged at $15 and it adds five maps to the game. Those are as mentioned below:

Gamers will see an oil refinery site and it is the largest yet seen in MW2. The location is separated between two buildings and the design of it encourages a focus on rooftop sniping. It is even a window-to-window combat.

Trailer Park
This map is smaller than the Fuel one. The location is around a variety of motor homes and picnic tables. One will see numerous corridors and choke point in it.

The map is on abandoned fairgrounds. In it the rides and attractions are left to rust. Gamers will see here themed areas that range from futuristic to medieval. One can use castles and rocket ships type of landmarks to coordinate their efforts.

This map features a Mideast setting. It has some of the reasonably frantic urban combat.

This map is set in an abandoned Russian office complex. The popularity of this map peaked in the original Modern Warfare.

Will Black Ops Sales Be Fast As MW2

May 31st, 2010

In US alone ten million copies of Modern Warfare 2 has been sold, though there was too much of trash talk and controversy. It seems that the developers is running off to join Respawn. Activision are in the hope of doing the same with Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Cowen and Company does some prediction for the Black Ops. The game is going to be released by November and it has even started charting in some territories due to the pre-orders.

Well, the main question here is that can Black Ops sale be as fast as Modern Warfare 2, which has hit 4.7 million sales in just 24 hours after its release last year on November 10. Within four months the sales of its had hit ten million milestone.

Analyst Colin Sebastian said, “Activision’s game franchises are pretty healthy in spite of what’s happening with Infinity Ward… The impression was that things were falling off track, but for now Call of Duty remains strong.” Sebastian is an analyst with Lazard Capital Markets.

In a recent management turmoil the publisher lost around three dozens key talent at Infinity Ward studio. In March the company fired two top executives who in return sued the publisher for allegedly withholding royalties from MW2′s sale. Following this other talents who made MW2 started resigning.
